Accessibility
What we are aiming for, where we actually stand, and how to tell us when something on this site gets in your way.
On this page
We want this site to be usable by as many people as possible — including people using a screen reader, navigating by keyboard, magnifying the page, or relying on captions. Building systems other people have to live with is our day job, so a site that locks people out would be an odd advertisement for it.
What we are aiming for
We build toward the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) version 2.2 at Level AA. In practice that means readable color contrast, everything reachable and operable by keyboard, text alternatives for images that carry meaning, captions on video, and a page structure that assistive technology can navigate.
Where we stand
This site has not yet been through a formal accessibility audit, so we are not claiming a conformance level. Aiming at a standard and meeting it are different statements, and we would rather make the one that is true. When an audit has been done, this page will say what was tested, when, by whom, what was found, and what is still outstanding.
What has been done so far
Text contrast on the pages built so far has been measured against the WCAG AA thresholds rather than eyeballed, including white text over photographs, which is where it usually fails. Navigation entries that do not lead anywhere are rendered as plain text rather than disabled links, so they are not announced as links and cannot be tabbed to. Headings follow document order, and images that carry meaning have text alternatives.
Tell us about a problem
If something on this site stops you doing what you came to do, please tell us. Email sales@modernsignal.com with the address of the page, what you were trying to do, and what happened — and, if it helps, what you were using to browse. You do not need to know the technical cause.
If you need something on this site in a different format, ask and we will get it to you another way.
This statement
This statement applies to this website, not to systems we build and run for clients — accessibility on those is set by the contract and by whatever standard that client has to meet.
